Farzana Sayani, MD, MSc, is an adult hematologist with expertise in thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Dr. Sayani attended the University of Calgary, Canada, for medical school, completed her residency and fellowship training at the Universities of Calgary and Alberta, and completed a Hemoglobinopathy fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She has a Master’s Degree in Haemoglobinopathies from University College London. Dr. Sayani joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2012. Prior to arriving at Penn, she had established and was Director of the Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Program at the University of Calgary. At Penn, she has established an adult thalassemia program and has been instrumental in the development of an adult sickle cell program (2018). She serves as the Director of the Penn Comprehensive Sickle Cell, and Penn Comprehensive Adult Thalassemia Programs. Her main areas of interest include adult complications of hemoglobinopathies, pediatric to adult transition, and health equity.
